BC Building Code 2018
The BC Building Code (BCBC) is a provincial regulation that governs how new construction, building alterations, repairs and demolitions are completed. This code establishes minimum requirements for safety, health, accessibility, fire and structural protection of buildings and energy and water efficiency. It applies throughout the province except for some federal lands and the City of Vancouver. The code ensures that new constructions, including additions, substantial alterations, buildings undergoing a change for occupancy, and upgrading of buildings is done in a way that minimizes and removes unacceptable hazards.
The BC Codes are based on the model National Codes of Canada with some modifications specific to BC. The Province of BC is now offering the BC Building, Plumbing, and Fire Codes online at no charge. This aligns with the Federal Government of Canada’s recently announced changes to the National Model Codes.
