New Home Builds
Are you building a new home that you want to be both environmentally friendly and energy efficient? If you’re an architect, home designer or builder, Capture Energy can provide sustainable building consulting to help you to build a greener, more energy efficient home.
As Certified Energy Advisors, we can also assess the effectiveness of the systems that have been installed—from building materials, HVAC equipment, windows, plumbing and more. We are certified by both BuiltGreen® Canada and Natural Resources Canada EnerGuide for new houses.
When you build a greener home, the cost of an increased mortgage is often offset by utility bill savings, along with the peace of mind of significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
An EnerGuide rating is required for many new builds, including but not limited to City of Vancouver bylaws, BuiltGreen, and CMHC Mortgage Insurance Rebate. Do you plan to build a home in North Vancouver? The City of North Vancouver has passed legislation allowing for square footage of new homes’ basements to be property tax exempt. In order to take advantage of this tax exemption, you must engage a Certified Energy Advisor and take part in the BuiltGreen program while building your new home, and the home must score 80 or higher on the EnerGuide scale.
We can offer advice and resources to integrate within the construction process to guide you in building a home that:
Is ecologically sound—traditional homes are responsible for 17% of all energy consumption in Canada. That’s a lot!
Improves air quality and reduces drafts—air filtration systems can lessen allergens and dust, while air-tightness can a comfortable and even temperature distribution.
Is energy efficient and lowers costs—save on utility bills and benefit from cutting-edge eco-technology.
Increases the resale value of your home. As home codes develop and become more green, a greener home would ensure your home stays competitive on the market.
EnerGuide Evaluations
We are NRCan Certified for existing homes, new builds and MURBS.
An EnerGuide rating shows a standard measure of your home’s energy performance. It shows you (and future buyers) exactly how energy efficient your home is.
The rating is calculated based on standard operation assumptions so that you can compare the energy performance of one house against another.
